The three Home of Devenish sites
Our homes sit in a quiet, leafy suburb above the town of Weymouth, with excellent local amenities and plenty for our residents to do in Summer and Winter. The estates are well-tended and have a friendly community feel.
Crossroad Surgery, awarded one of the highest ratings in Dorset, is close by. Weymouth is served by an excellent community hospital and the County Hospital in Dorchester is just seven miles away.
Buses stop close to each of our estates, taxi firms are within easy reach, and the town is at the terminus of a direct railway line to London, in one direction, and Bristol in the other.
There are also plenty of opportunities to find home help or other assistance among the local population. One of the advantages of being close to a bustling town is that there is no shortage of local labour. All the tradesmen that work for us are approved and known.
Passing close to our estates is the Cinder Path, a buggy-friendly pedestrian route down to Hope Square, with its family-owned restaurants and cafés, and Brewery Quay and the harbour nearby.
Weymouth is well-served for Churches and caters for all tastes, from High to Evangelical. A local retirement home has a weekly service that some of our residents attend.
Weymouth and Dorset
With its mild climate and absence of motorways, Dorset has retained its quiet and peaceful lifestyle. Weymouth sits on the Dorset coastline and is at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, a 95-mile stretch of coastline that UNESCO awarded World Heritage status because of its geological importance.
The town has a lot to offer its residents: there are clubs, societies and classes to suit every taste and ability.
At the heart of Weymouth is its beautiful beach with some of the finest sand in the UK. Safe for swimming, it was first made popular by George IV. The beach is matched by the historic harbour side, where an active fishing fleet sits happily alongside visiting yachts. The town centre is easy to get around.
The waters around Weymouth and Portland offer some of the best sailing conditions in Europe. The 2012 Olympics sailing events were held here and rejuvenated many facilities in the area.
During the summer months, when the region sees an influx of visitors and holidaymakers, the centre of Weymouth becomes a more bustling, lively place, but the area retains its friendly and welcoming ambience year-round.
